Whether you last rowed a year ago or decades ago, we invite you to get back on the water with Lake Washington Rowing Club in May.

In partnership with USRowing, rowing organizations across the country are hosting Return to Row days throughout the month of May. These events are open to former rowers of any experience level and from any program or background in the sport.

Join Lake Washington Club (LWRC) on May 30th to reconnect with the sport and enjoy time with the rowing community!

FAQ

  • What is the cost to participate? This event is free for all participants.

  • What will the day look like? How much time will we spend rowing? Expect this to be a fun, casual, and low-pressure event! We'll start the session with a quick refresher on the ergs and a review of rowing commands. Then we'll get in the boats and on the water so you can get back in the swing. We’ll spend 1+ hour on the water, and afterward we’ll gather back at the boathouse for coffee, refreshments, and light snacks.

  • I can't make the event on May 30th session, but I am interested in getting back into rowing. No problem! Reach out to us at office@lakewashingtonrowing.com to learn more about options at LWRC for returning rowers. You can also check out other Return to Rowing events hosted this month by Pocock Rowing Club and Lake Union Crew.

  • I've only rowed on an erg before. Is this session appropriate for me? This session is geared toward individuals who have prior experience rowing in a boat. If you are interested in learning to row, we offer programs for beginners. Check them out here: Lake Washington Rowing Club Learn to Row.

  • What level of experience do I need to participate? Do I need to know how to sweep or scull? Return to Row is suited for individuals who have previously rowed in a boat for at least several sessions. This includes anything from taking a beginning rowing class to rowing competitively at the junior, collegiate, or Masters level. No recent rowing experience is expected. You do not need to know how to sweep or scull--although you should have done one of these in the past! This session is designed to accommodate previous rowers regardless of the type rowing they've done in the past.

  • What fitness level is required to participate? Participants should be able to perform a low squat and shift from a kneeling and sitting position to a standing position without assistance. If you have concerns about a physical limitation, please contact us at office@lakewashingtonrowing.com.

  • What should I bring to this session? All equipment will be provided. However, you may want to bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and a change of clothing for afterward.

  • What should I wear? Avoid baggy clothing that could get caught in the slide (moveable seat track). Tights and spandex are ideal, as are moisture-wicking clothing. Depending on the weather, you may want to bring layers, a hat, and/or sunglasses. Wear socks and a pair of shoes that are easy to take on and off on the dock.

  • Do I need to provide a float test? No. When RSVP'ing, you will be asked if you can tread water unaided. If you answer no, you will be required to wear a life jacket for the session.
